Should be on your doorjamb sticker. Usually payload is around 15-1600. Sand is heavy so you may be over, but for short distances you will be okay.

You have a half ton pick-up...it's called that for a reason.

So the seven lug heavy half tons are setup to haul the same weight as all "half tons?" I think not, check your sticker as all trucks vary slightly. 2WD trucks are setup to tow and haul more than 4wd. Check the doorjamb sticker as well as manual for tow ratings and you will see that 2wd has higher capacities. You hungover this morning techrep? Usually you offer better insight than that.

He did not say he had a heavy half or that he was towing the sand...2WD and 4WD beds are the same...the suspenison under the beds may be different...

the half-ton classification is really only a stylistic classification at this point. these trucks can take far more than that. I work landscaping and some construction and repeatedly have 1300-1500 lbs and have had as much as a little over a ton and a quarter in the bed and it's definately capable. Just watch sag as they load it. and accelerate and stop gently. Keep in mind, that our beds aren't water tight and if you haul sand you're going to lose some of it, so either line it, or keep in mind what you're drivin over, first time I did this I poured a nice little line of stone dust on my lawn. Thankfully it was my own.

Was making a statement that all half tons are not created equal as you put it. It's called half ton for a reason, is not accurate, is what I'm saying. My payload is 1600 and I don't weigh 600 pounds, therefore I can safely haul up to 1380 or so depending what else I have in my truck, which is over a half ton.
