As a veteran of two windshield-eating affairs, I won't leave the driveway without mine on.

Seatbelts, like anything else, need to be maintained and checked occasionally. Do the inertia locks work as they should, etc.

They aren't just for collisions, they also help when one has to do evasive driving maneuvers so to be able to stay in the driver's seat.

I'm sure there are plenty of stories about seatbelts not doing their job, or not being able to get it off if the vehicle is submerged, etc. But statistically, wearing a seatbelt is much safer than not wearing.

*edit* Just be thankful that this isn't 1974, where new cars had a government-mandated seat-belt interlock. If you turned the key without having the seatbelt on, not only would the car not start, but you would have to get out, lift the hood, and hit the reset button. Since it only lasted one year, you can tell how well it was received.

<-----makes the assumption that this guy doesn't have a gf because Triton V8 would rather have a gf over a Focus.

The issue here is not whether or not to wear the belt but whether you want a vehicle that bitches at you. There are times when the belt comes off - at the ATM or backing down the driveway for example - that I just don't need to hear that annoying alarm.
