Default valve cover gasket replace

how difficult is it to replace the valve cover gaskets on a 2008 F-150 4.6? Excessive amounts of oil in the spark plugs passage ways. Thank You

How difficult it is will depend on your level of mechanical ability. It is time consuming as there is stuff that has to be removed to get them off like the brake booster pipe and power steering reservoir on the driver's side. There is nothing particularly challenging though, just a matter of unbolting things until they can come off. I used empty egg cartons to keep the bolts and studs organized so I would know what went where when putting the covers back on. The 4.6 is easier than the 5.4 (5.3?) so take solace in that.

Thanks. I've been working on my vehicles for years no experience with late model Ford's though and no manual and I hate Haynes manuals, leave too much out. Not my truck, Brothers

There isn't anything tricky that you would need a manual for. Just keep taking stuff off until you can get them out.

There is torque and sequence. I don't have the specific sequence for the 4.6 but it's usually always working from the middle out to the ends alternating back and forth to each side as you go. Should be 10 Nm/89 lb-in. Not all that critical, just don't want to tighten it down in an odd way and warp it somehow or crack/strip the casting.

Depending on how it's routed, A/C might have to be pulled down and the pipe disconnected from the accumulator.

Definitely on the '04 5.4, this is true.

I definitely didn’t have to move anything to do with the AC on my 2004 4.6. Oh and 10nm is “snug” in old money. 😄
