Default Vacuum line behind intake

2004 5.4l f150.... I’ve been hearing about a vacuum line that is located behind intake manifold next to the firewall. Does anyone have a picture of this? Or have experience with it? Apparently it comes loose and causes engine shake and everything.

Its on the Drivers side rear of the intake. There's two actually one has a plug/cover on it for 2WD and for 4WD it goes to the actuator (that one is on the passenger side). Its super hard to reach back there without the intake off. IDK about engine shake or anything like that. I think the biggest thing you would notice is very stiff brakes, because there's no vacuum. Do you have a problem with vacuum?

Now that you mention it my brakes do feel stiff. My issue is a shaking engine and no power. Changed plugs and coils packs. Did block test for leaks and nothing came up. Someone mentioned the vacuum line on YouTube but never really showed a picture: he said he has similar symptoms. My
valves could be sticking too which is my next test.

oh very interesting. thanks! i looked at that thread and there was another pic that shows the lines connected and i dont think mine is setup that way which could be the issue. on another note, man those are deep in there eh. would definitel have to pull intake off or tap into my surgeon precision with some form of camera scope and long object.

Wasn't this a recall? I know I took my truck in to the dealer and had something about this worked on.

Hey all, I know this is an old thread. I have a 2008 FX4 crew cab that have Had phasers full timing rocker's lifters oil pump replaced. I noticed it started running rough at idle, no codes, And saw this thread about the vacuum line behind manifold. I also saw that for some cars there is no line connected on passenger side, but mine is a four wheel drive and I'm trying to determine if the mechanic didn't put it back on after the work. The nipple is bottom center of pictire, the hose at bottom also does not look exactly like the pictures in the thread . Can anybody advise that has experience See attached pictures, your help is greatly appreciated. My thoughts are it is the line at the bottom but I don't want to start tugging on it and have it come off somewhere else that it's supposed to be connected looks like it goes under manifold. Also looks like mechanic left shield off that goes on back of manifold. Jeez.

no recall that I’m aware of. I ran an auto center at the time and my guys couldn’t figure it out so I sent it to the Ford dealership. it was there for two days and they couldn’t figure it out. After two days they called me and said they were still stumped, and then their master mechanics said, give him a few minutes. He came back and said it was a vacuum wine on the back of the intake and plugged it in and charged me 400 bucks for doing it. I’ve got it down to 10 seconds plugging it in now since it pops off probably every other month for the last decade. You just have to crawl up and straddle your motor and stick your hand down the passenger side as long as you got skinny arms and small hands and plug it back in….it drives me bonkers. The reason I post this is because I just had to do it again for the umpteenth time and couldn’t figure out why it was running like crap because I thought it was plugged in.

If you have the 2004 with this little hose popping off - make a little manifold on drivers side just like the 2005;s . You could make it out of copper and solder . Plug the little hole with 5 minute epoxy and be done with it .Or go to junk yard and get the 05 connection/manifold .
