Default U joint replacement?

Took my truck to the shop to get my rear u joint replaced and they said that they couldn't do it and that they have never seen a u joint like this. They said the clips seemed to be pressed in and they can't get them out?

Any help would be appreciated greatly..

You probably have the staked u-joints. Ford says to replace the entire driveshaft. However, there is a kit that drills the stakes out so that you can replace the u-joints.

A good driveline shop should be able to fix you up.

You should be able to find a rebuildable shaft in a junkyard that will fit.

This is the kind of crap that ticks me off. Why make a normal wear item unserviceable? Next they will make brake pads permanently attached to the caliper so you have to replace the whole assembly, new vehicles are really starting to suck!

I hear that brother. I bought an '07 because I didn't want a newer vehicle. Since then I read of all kinds of different problems. This u-joint deal is just one more to add to the list. Wish I knew about the head redesign for '08 and onward. .would've bought one of them. Spark plug change, what a P.I.T.A. (after I pay this sucker off, i'll trade it in on something else. Like a classic I can still work on. I feel your pain. Good luck on finding a solution to your u-joint problem.

"The Times They Are A-Changin'". Bob Dylan 1964.
The times been changing since history was first recorded.
Some bitchin' may help but most will be disregarded and we will go forward.
Get used to it.

Sounds like you got staked u-joints. Luckily my 06 w/ aluminum driveshaft does not.

Another option...just buy an entire new driveshaft. Here's one on eBay for $300:

I'm partial to Tom Woods Driveshafts - they have great service. Don't be afraid of calling and getting a quote - their pricing is very competitive:
