Default Tuners

I was wandering if engine turners are worth installing. I never had one in my trucks but Ive heard they really help with power and mpg.

Power - yes. MPG - maybe.
I have Edge Evo in '04 Scab with 4.6.
Before the tuner the truck was just slow to go through the gears and get up to speed. Much better now.
I put the tuner in earlier this year just as the weather was warming up. Mileage increased - weather or tuner?? Had no previous records to compare.

Power yes. Primary purpose of a tuner is more horsepower and torque, secondary benefit is MPG. REAL world mpg are typically .5 - 2 mpg and that's only if you keep your foot out of it.

What year and engine are you looking to tune?

Power gains are the biggest part but also throttle lag being 99% eliminated and the remapped transmission, shifting a lot smoother and quicker then stock is what you notice mostly just driving around town.

05 5.4 you be looking at about 22-25 horses to the wheels and 20-24 torque increase

Biggest difference I found was in the transmission. Shifts feel a lot quicker. Small difference in power, but that could be because of the 35's and stock 3.55s. And mpgs stayed about the same but that's also because of the tires and gearing

I fill / 24 gallons with E85 and turn on tow/haul. Big difference. It costs $10 less to fill it and best improvement yet.

I have the SCT XCal2 on mine, set to the efficiency tune, and although it DOES impact power it also helped my mileage. Between the tuner, and intake, I get about 2mpg better than without. However going from 33s to 35s sucked that back...
