Default Tune up

Hey guys. I need a tuneup in my 06 fx4 5.4 badly. Dealer quoted me $300-600. Do you think I should have them replace the cam phaser at the same time? Truck has 122k but it doesn't sound like a diesel. I just don't want to deal with that problem down the road. How much more do Yous think it'll cost me to have them do everything at the same time? Should I do it? Thanks!

Hey man.

Depending how well or how bad your tune up goes, a tune up has no relation to the cam phasers in general. However, if it gets as bad as mine, and heads have to be pulled, phasers wouldnt be a bad idea.

If done right there should be no need to pull the heads for a plug change. What all are they including in their "tune up" for that price? Search around and you'll find some replace their phasers with the updated part and still get the noise. If it's not making noise, I wouldn't touch it.

Agreed. ^^

I had to pull heads on mine. Broke six of the eight off, then on the second extraction the lisle tool brook off inside the head. Haha
