TSB Questions
Educate me please. Walked into my local Ford service department and asked if they could check Oasis to see if TSB 8-14-3 had been implemented on my 2008 F150 by its previous owner. It was not. (My conditions are exactly as described by the TSB). Truck is out of warranty, so I asked them if I could make an appointment to have the TSB done. They said, yes, but they would need to test drive, hook it up to diagnostics, and see if the TSB is warranted. I don't want all that. I just want to get the reflash done, and be on my way. I understand it's out of warranty, and I have to pay for the TSB. That's why I don't want all the extra testing/diagnositcs. They turned me away. Am I missing something? If Ford was paying for it, I get their approach. But I just want to pay for the time to reflash the truck, and be on my way. Set me straight. Thanks
As far as I've ever dealt with the dealership, any and all TSBs are covered by the dealership at their expense, no matter how long it's been. It could be that they don't want to do it because they don't think your truck needs it or because they don't want to lose out on the money to do it.
I'm happy to clarify the parameters of a TSB! After doing some research, I've found a clear, precise definition that might provide some clarity:
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a supplement to a vehicle's repair manual and does not suggest nor provide additional coverage. Coverage of any repair is determined by eligibility under the provisions of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, a Customer Satisfaction Program or a Recall.
I hope this clears up some of the confusion! TSBs and coverage can be a little tricky, but your next best resource (besides me, of course) is your dealer; as they're independently owned and operated, dealers often approach TSBs and their suggested approaches differently.
If there are any follow up questions, I'll be here to answer them.

Mulestang... you commented under my thread engine rev shifting into OD. I just had mine done. It is not free, unless you are still under warranty. I went on a test drive with the tech so he could see our issue. He witnessed the problem. They reflashed and so far so good. They charged me an hour. $95.... That's what their book calls for time. Maybe try a different dealer not trying to suck more money from you. Hope this helps.

Here's a question for you. There is a TSB on the 4WD IWE solenoid. I have a 2006 and it was bought new and put in storage for five years due to my orders to Japan for five years. Got truck and solenoid caused problems, and now 4WD doesn't work at all. Not sure if I need new IWE's. What will Ford do about that? Next question is that while I was overseas, received numerous recall notices, then when I get home and take the truck to the dealer, they say, there is none. How can you have a recall and then not have a recall?

Ford doesn't have to cover the iwe solenoid because it was a tsb, not a recall. As for the actual recalls, they have to honor any open ones. You can find them online yourself.

When I bought my 04, it still had an open recall for the airbag clockspring.
