I have my front diff apart in my 04 F150 5.4 to replace the pinion bearings and in between the 2 bearing races, is a thin aluminum piece, which to me looks like an oil shield of some sort. It is pretty banged up so I would like to replace it, but even my ford dealer parts guy doesn't seem to have a clue what I am talking about. Does anyone here have an idea what this part is called or if it is available for purchase anywhere?
+1 that definitely looks like the pinion seal. Is the metal ring on the outside of it the crush collar?
Oops sorry guys, ya that's the pinion seal there I uploaded the wrong picture and deleted the right one, I will have to go to the shop later and retake. My bad
Here is a better picture, a bit of gear oil on it, completely aluminum and was in between the two races. Wondering if someone rebuilt the diff at some point and used it as a spacer maybe? I don't recognize it as a part.
