Default Truck unexpectedly stopped

2004 FX4 5.4 97K miles

So, this morning I'm on my way to work and about 3 blocks from the office (9 mile commute) I slowed down for a stop light and my truck's engine just stopped. There were no warnings before it happened. I just noticed the power steering go out and looed down at the cluster panel. An audible beep sounded and the the information panel read "check guages". The brake, air bag, and seatbelt lights were all on. I turned the key backwards and then started the engine again. The engine started right up and it didn't repeat the problem the rest of the way.

Question: When I got to work I put the information panel into "test" mose and wrote down all of the information; does it tell anything about what happened? Or, do I need to get it checked out by a mechanic? I can change parts out and diagnose minor issues but have no clue when it comes to codes.

thanks for any help or direction

is your check engine light on.......or has it been on......

i would take it a auto zone or oreillys ... have them check the codes.... see what codes if any you are showing....

It has never been on before this morning (forgot that one). Thanks, I'll go by after work and have them pull the codes for me.

Late update. It ended up being a clogged/dirty fuel filter. Problem solved (new one this morning... see "Help?" thread)

sounds exactly like what happened to my old mustang one night, woner if that was caused by the fuel filter too
