Transmission type?
Hey, I'm pretty new to this forum (obviously). My truck 2007 f150 5.4 threw a p0717. Long story short, the sensor ohmed out just fine and everything was connected. My worst fear of needing to replace the trans has been realized. Here's my issue, what transmission do I have? It seems like it's a coin flip between a 4R75E and 4R75W. How do I tell the difference? VIN decoders haven't helped and there is no door sticker that has any type of code for my transmission. If there is an easier way than pulling it out to check then I'm all ears. Thanks in advance.

U-Pull yards have them for around $150 plus core. You pull but if no good you return for another.
The easy way to tell the difference between 4R70W/4R75W and 4R70E/4R75E is that the 4R70E/4R75E has a extra sensor (TSS) located basically directly above the Trans Range Sensor (shift cable attaches to TRS). Don't buy a 4R70W/4R75W and try to put into a 2007 or you will get to try again as it will not work without extensive internal changeover.
P0717 does not mean you need a new transmission. My guess is damaged wiring or connector
Potential causes for this code to set are:
A faulty input speed sensor TSS not OSS
Damaged, loose, or shorted wiring and/or connectors in the circuit
PCM failure or a PCM programming error

This is a complete guess
The PCM looks at wheel speed sensors and transmission speed sensors to establish shift points AND detect wheel slippage. Wheel slippage can put you into a vehicle speed limiting mode of about 45 mph. I would go to work on your C1297 problem and it may solve the P0717.
Besides the P0717 what else makes you think you have a trans problem?
One of my previous vehicles, a 1998 Lincoln Town Car, went into speed limiting mode more than once. Pot hole on I-94 near Detroit and expansion joint on I-75 somewhere in Kentucky. First time it happened I had no clue what was going on, you could push the pedal to the metal and still only do 45 mph and that's not good on an interstate. Without knowing any better or what had just happened I turn the car off and back on and this reset (cleared) the speed limiter and I was able to proceed normally.
