Default Transmission Temps

I have a 2007 FX4 with the towing package. I'm pulling a new 8000lbs dump trailer and I'm concerned about transmission temp's. I have the Edge performance dash pod and I'm seeing transmission temps around 210F. Is this too hot? Should I be upgrading my transmission cooler? I just don't know if 210 is O.K. and too hot is 250F or if it should be running @ 195 and 210 is too hot??

Help please...

I think 210 is within limits while towing...mine runs 180-190 without a load.

Cooler the better. I run about 150 and on a hot day in traffic run 180 to 190.

Are these temps you are seeing while towing?

These are some low transmission temps for summer driving. Must be your northern climate, as I see 170 to 190's in the summer driving between Texas and Florida, and that's with a transmission cooler and no towing.

Same I generally see 180 on the highway in Texas Summer.

I normally run 150 but when it is 90+ outside I have seen them rise. Yesterday I hit 190 doing 75MPH with an ATV (600#) in the back and it was around 95 degrees. My engine temps are usually 194 - 196 but they hit 206 for a little bit. The hotter weather has a definite effect on temps. Does anyone know the point at which you should have concern temp wise for tranny and engine?

Bucksaw are you using OD while you are towing that load? If you are you should not be, its the constant up and down shifting that causes most of the heat in these transmissions. I tow a 30' TT that weighs about 7,000 loaded and the highest temps I see are in the 190 range and that is only while pulling long hills, flat out it hangs around 170. Everyday driving without a load i rarely see more than 160. 210 is on the high side and I would be trying to find ways to get the temps down a touch if I were you. Does your truck have an auxiliary trans cooler?
