Default Transmission Surging...

Howdy!

Once I get into 4th gear and crusing if I give the truck some slight throttle I will get a surging affect. It only does this at super low RPMs. Also it is much more noticeable when I am just crusing around.

Today I decided to check my fluids because I was going to be heading outta town tomorrow and while checking my tranny fluid my stick registered past hot and into the overfull zone. Could it do that if my tranny is super hot? Also, the truck runs great and shifts great.

Im thinking of dropping the pan and replacing filter and fluid. Is there a write up on this anywhere?

Anyone have an opinion on my it surges?

Thanks

Mj

I had the same thing, changed the spark plugs and boots and it went away. Might want to wait for some more opinions first but that was my experience.

Yep, thats not a tranny issue bud that is a misfire in the motor and most likely a plug or cop is bad. Mine does it to at low rpms and I just keep putting it off till it gets real bad because under hard acceleration it runs great, it just has a little surge/bog to it under real low rpms

I've heard that too. I guess plugs and boots are in my future.

As for the second question regarding the tranny fluid. Should I drain and fill back up?

I would drain it to the recommended level.

Is it just me or is your fluid a little dark? If it is getting dark I would definitely change the fluid

By just dropping the pan how many quarts should I add? Is there a write up somewhere somebody could post a link to?

There will be enough fluid still in the transmission after you drop the pan that you can start the motor without adding any. Expect to add 5-7 quarts though.

my transmission gives me mixed signals.... it drives and shifts fine from Park thru overdrive. But at highway speeds when I tap the throttle the RPM jumps to 3500, which is normal, but the transmission does not engage and I remain at the same speed. The RPM stays at 3500 for about 5 seconds before it reengages in overdrive....I'm pretty sure that's not normal. Then after the truck is warmed up and I want to go in reverse from either park, neutral or drive, there is another 5 second delay before it engages. I'm a DIY kinda of guy so I just changed the transmission fluid and filter this morning. My truck has 74K and the tranny fluid looked and smelled normal. the magnet in the pan was not dirty at all either. so now I'm at a loss... any help... I have read a lot of post but still have mixed signals.

I'm not sure how much the f150 trans and f250 trans has in common, but if it has a direct shift solenoid, check that.
