Default Transmission Snap Ring?

After a loud rattle on my truck continuously got worse I finally took it to the ford dealership to try and diagnose. The rattle, which seems to match the rpms is pretty loud and fluctuates as the truck changes gears. The ford techs said it is a transmission snap ring which has warped or broken and they want 1800 to pull and fix it . The problem is I dont have the tools or time to do this myself and the rattle has gotten rather annoying.

My question is has anyone else had this problem and does this sound like it could be the real source of the noise? They told me it is a fairly common problem with our transmissions but I have never heard anyone mention it on here. I also thought that if a snap ring went bad noise wouldn't be the only problem associated with it. Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

Mine started making a noise when its under a load like going up a bridge or accellerating onto freway! Sound almost like i have windows open with lastic bags in back seat! If i let off gas a lil bit it stops, wondering if same as ur problem?

Mine does it when its under a slight load but its nothing extremely loud or obvious, in fact if you turn on the radio its blocked out to some degree so I'm guessing yours is something else based on what you have described
