Default Transmission problem.... need help/advice

Hi everyone i'm having a problem and need help. My truck is a 2008 F150 with a 4.6 it has 41,xxx miles on it and i have lost second gear. Where the odometer is it says transmission fault and the check engine light is on the codes are P0732 and P1714.

I just installed an edge and this is when everything started happening i only have about sixty miles on with the edge. so i set it back to stock and still doing the same thing. I have checked the fluids and they are fine but there was a slight whining noise before i switched it back to stock then when i switched it to stock there was a slight grinding noise and now no second gear. So i don't know if it was the edge or if my tranny was just weak. I Hope someone can help.

Ps. my transmission code is Q so i have a 4R75E i think.

Most likely a bad transmission. Want to sell your edge?

I know that this doesn't really help, but i'm guessing that the edge likely didn't cause the issue but brought it to light sooner than you would have normally experienced it. were you running the canned tunes and if so which one? also did you increase tire size without re-gearing and/or do you tow a lot? 40k doesn't sound like a lot to start having trans problems but short trips and a lot of stop and go stuff obviously isn't ideal...

not he same truck but my dad's shop manager bought a new f250, I'm guessing around 06 and my dad bought one too... both ordered on the same day, identical other than color. my dad's shop manager lives like 2 miles from the shop and had less than 10k after 2 years but tons of issues (not many specifically with the 6.0) worn out brakes, slipping tranny, worn out tie rods, leaking axles seals,... some of that is likely due to plowing and maybe he just got a bad one but the only difference with his and my dad's other than color was that my dad lives 50 miles away from the shop so he puts a lot more miles on his and he didn't have near the wear his shop manager did in that time frame with over 60k on his.

Ok it sucks the transmission is probably bad but im glad to hear that it probably wasn't my edge im gonna hang on to it.

I was running it on setting two but i only noticed a stiffer shift once when i started driving it. so then i bumped the firmness up to 6 and it still wasn't really stiff at all then these codes popped up. I haven't towed with it and ive only had the truck for 4 months and the driving has been 50/50 between city and rural roads.

Ive had 2 other f150s and a 250 with a 5.4 and only had to replace one transmission when one of my 150s had 180000 miles so 41000 seems ridiculous that the trans is shot i guess i just want to be sure putting in the edge didn't kill it

i would bet the increased shift pressure caused some gunk or maybe a broken part to move from where it was to some where worse. I don't think you have anything to loose by trying a few pan drops. you might get some cleaning action from fresh oil which could fix the problem. and if it doesn't, you're only out the cost of oil.

The dealership will ALWAYS claim that it was the tuner that did it, BUT, like the other folks have already stated; it most likely wasn't the Edge that ruined the tranny. It most likely brought to light what was already going bad. Uzikaduzi said it best.

If you drop the pan and find chunks in it then it sounds like its time for another tranny. I got wild when I got my SCT and within 10000 miles I popped the OD. Just had it rebuilt last Monday. Had 202000 on the original. If you dont find any chunks in the pan, I would do as someone mentioned above and try a few fluid swaps. Seriously doubt the Edge did any harm unless you got crazy like I did with the gas pedal :-)

P0732 - Incorrect Gear Ratio 1
P1714 - Shift Solenoid A Malfunction

Might be able to pull the pan, replace the Shift Solenoid and might clear the P0732

I'm no expert on the edge but I've heard people say you can have issues if you bump the shift pressure up to 12 but I've never heard of anyone actually having issues and a lot of guys on here seem to like the shift pressure at 12. as far as really getting on the gas, there is a little bit more power at the towing level (level 2) from my understanding but not much... mostly just better shifting. so i'd still think the edge only brought the issue to light quicker... I'd imagine it's definitely possible to cause huge problems with the custom tuning ability or maybe even leaving it in level 3 all the time but again, I'm no expert and most knowledge i have is just parroting the stuff from the guys on these forums.

If it helps, I also have a 08 with the 4.6. My transmission dropped 3rd gear. Took it to Ford and when they pulled it the Fluid was black syrup. Tons of metal shavings and pieces came out. Replaced under warranty. I had 30k on it.
