Default Transmission issues

Hey guys I have run into some transmission issues and was wondering if I could get some insight . A few weeks back the truck (2006 f150 5.4 4x4 3.55 gears 285 75 17 tires) was shifting really hard on 3-4 wot shifts passing people. Last week it began shuddering building up speed from about 40-60 mph. If you eased into it it wasn't bad.

I decided it was time for a tranny service. I picked up a ford filter and 6 quarts of pennsoil mercon v. I began with 5 quarts and it seemed good. Fluid level was a tad low but still in the crosshatch. The truck drove very well yesterday however today I noticed it was starting to slip. Now the truck won't maintain highway speed. Starting from a stop it will get up to speed however once you get into tc lockup and let off, and roll on the gas again its like your in neutral. If you stop and start again it gets up to speed again fine but once your in tc lockup it's all downhill.

Am I basically screwed here? Should I try a flush for a high one? Or should I start looking for a tranny? Or torque converter?

If its slipping that bad its very possible your tearing up clutches heat is a killer in transmissions and slipping builds heat fast, 5 qts seems little light for a transmission have you checked your fluid again? and did you jack the rear end of your truck off the ground and let it run through all the gears with out a load on the truck? That gets all the fluid back to the right passages with out load. I suggest to jack you truck up secure it safely on jack stands and run it in revers for a while and then get it up till the tq locks the add fluid accordingly. I lost the transmission in my truck like 3 weeks ago.. Buddy of mine that rebuilds transmission rebuilt it and when I picked it up he said he likes to leave his transmission little full... He's warranting it so I'm following what he says but mines about 1/8 inch-1/4 above the hatches so adding a little extra wouldnt hurt. Good luck to you

That plug is a tool the use when building the trans... You can just throw it away.

I'm sure it has been flushed at some point but yeah it's definately never been dropped. I bought the truck with 90,000 miles it's at 109 now. It's starting to sound like a burned up od band or broken clip..I just brought it into a. Tranny shop in town.

Ok so sounds like People are thinking its the od band but no means of confirming it and from what I understand there is no way of changing it aside from pulling the tranny out. By the time I pay for labor and what not I think in alot of ways I am better buying a reman tranny. The company I'm looking at I believe is called monster transmission? Can anyone vouch for them or reccomend a better reman? Mostly concerned about having a solid warranty. Thank you

Can anyone confirm the need to completely pull tranny to get the od band replaced? Or can it be done from under the truck

The OD band is buried deep in the transmission. The pump, planetary gears, valve body.... Everything has to come out. The band is cheap, but so is a whole clutch kit!
No trans shop is gonna give you a warranty if you insist upon just changing that band.
You're gonna spend a good 2500 on this....
