Question Transfer case motor question

I have searched every forum I possibly could but wanted to check one last time.

My 4wd quit last week. The last couple of times I used it, it took a little longer to engage than usual but it would within 10 seconds or so. Tried to use it last Wed and got nothing, no lights, no clicking, no grinding.. nothing. I dont engage/use it very often.

From what I've found on sites, if the dash lights dont come on when you engage the 4wd and you dont hear any clicks or grinding or anything, it means the TCM is out?? Is that correct?

I tapped on the TCM with a rubber mallet with no success. I checked the solenoid behind the battery and it has already been replaced as it has the hood around it.

I ordered a new TCM in hopes that its it, but before I hook it up and cant take it back, I wanted to see if there was a way to test the SOTF switch and also if there is a way to see if power is getting to the current TCM once the switch is turned to 4H and 4L?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Question

The new transfer case motor is expected in today...

Any help on whether or not my symptoms match a faulty TCM or how i can test for power??

Thanks!

If it was a vacuum leak, wouldn't the dash light still come on?

Got the same problem as you do atm. I also tried to bang the T-case without any results so I decided to get it to a dealership. According to guy everything was working as it should beside the motor.

When you try to engage 4x4 there's a signal telling the motor with way it should rotate (4x4 HI or 4x4 LOW) and "my" motor didn't understand what it was told and therefore nothing happened.

I would just change the motor and see if it works. I've been doing alot of research lately and it seems like a broken Transfer case is a common thing on Ford F150s so just hang the broken one and try to fix in case the new one decided to stop working.

Respectfully;

If it's a truck from this forum, it most certainly DOES use vacuum for the 4x4 system.

Had a similar issue. I replaced the IWE solenoid and it fixed the issue. Part was $27 from the dealership. You will need a deep 10mm socket to get the nuts off of the studs.
