Default trans question

So I had my trans rebuilt on my 2004 FX4. I had the guy who works for Ford on transmissions install a performance shift kit. Now that its all back in my truck when I'm going it shifts real hard into second. Basically slams into second. Is that suppose to happen because of the performance shift kit?

Shifting is controlled by fluid pressure and solenoid actuated valves in the valve body, shifts can either be controlled mechanically by installing a shift kit, or electronically by controlling the voltage to the solenoids allowing them to actuate the valves faster (harder shift) or slower (softer shift) since you installed the shift kit it will always shift hard, with a tuner you can change it when you want to.

Okay so the shift kit will always make it do that. Just wanted to know so that I can stop worrying about it. Weird That all the other gears shift smooth just not from first to second. Thanks for your help

In short it's a kit that has seprator plates ,heavrier check ***** , and heavier springs that hold pressure on the lines to make the trans shift harder the seporator plate goes in between the trans and the valve body the seporator plate has holes drilled in it at different places to move fliud in different directions

now out of curiosity, My truck is the same way shifts from 1st to 2nd and literally throws you in the seat and when wot breaks traction into second, but as you said every other gear is smoother. Is this something that is beneficial?

beneficial? not IMHO.

I agree that some shift points need to be changed sometimes, and sometimes the transition from gear to gear is too soft, and could be firmed up a little, but having the gears slam just shock loads parts, and that leads to failure.
