Default Trans problem. Any ideas?

I am new to the site but am a member of some other forums for my toys. I have a 04 150 4x4 5.4 with 58000 and it has a shutter(feels and sounds like i am running over a rumble strip on the road) going into od and sometimes when it down shifts out. The fliud looks ok and doesn't smell burnt. Any ideas or solutions. Thanks.

That is a good question because it also happened to my 04 150 with about the same freakin miles. It hasn't done it in about 3 months and really couldn't find an answer to why it happened. I did see in consumer reports that 04 and 05 had poor ratings on the drive train. It seemed to me that most of the noise was coming from the front left axle but, could never really pin point where it was.

this is do to the modifier breaking down in your trans fluid causing you to feel the torque convertor locking up changed the fluid and you should be fine

My '04 does it when it's cold. It's got about 8k on a fluid change. Do I still need to change it?

Unless you were towing heavy trailers and did not have the towing package, I'd say no. Did you have the transmission completely flushed, or was it just a transmission pan drop with a filter change? Big difference. If the shop mearly dropped the transmission pan and changed the filter, then all they did was replace about 4 quarts. The torque converter holds about 4 or 5 quarts (estimated), and all that recirculated into your transmission, mixing in with only 4 new quarts if the entire system was not flushed. A complete flush requires that the transmission send/return line be connected to a flushing station; it removes all the "old" fluid, and replaces it with new fluid. The shop will drop the pan as well to replace the filter, then connect the flushing station.

So, what was actually done?

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will try a trans flush first cause that is the cheapest thing. If that don't work it might get expensive. Hope not!

Im having the same issue, however mines an 08 fx4 with 4500 miles
bought the truck brand new and about 2000miles it began to have the same problem. Some days it will run fine without any shudder/slam in gear and others it will be very noticeable and happen several times.
Its from first-second, not when od is kicking in. Getting it checked monday and i believe its the 1-2 actuator thats causing the issue for mine? Would like a confirmation
