Default Trams fluid change?

I looked around on search and saw everything for older models. My 06 screw 4.6 has 154k on it and fluid never been changed. It's not giving me any problems. Has anyone dropped the pan, cleaned it, new filter and replaced the 5-6 quarts it needs? And then a week later or so do the same for a few weekends? With this many miles? Or would I be knocking on the door of costly repairs? My uncle with an 05 xl 4.6 and 120k did it and has no problems so far. But he only has 5k on it since then. Thanks.

I don't see why you would repeat the process several weeks later. You may think that doing that process is a replacement for a transmission flush. It is not. Best thing to do is to simply drop the pan, replace the filter and gasket and refill the fluid as most transmissions shops do. You can service it again at around 60,000km to 160,000km depending on whether your transmission sees lots of hard work.

dont do it.

i have heard over 100k dont even both. the trans get used to the consistancy of the fluid after that long.

i asked our family mechanic if i should bother doing it cause i have heard bad stuff about it he said he wouldnt reccommend it but if i went a head and did it to throw a bottle of lucas in it. ive only got 114k i was planning on doing it around 100k when i asked about it. decided not to.

I have 172,000km on mine and I'll eventually be doing it in the spring or summer. Mind you I have a transmission cooler and I haul an 8,000lb trailer on a daily basis. Like all fluids, transmission fluid will eventually degrade over use.

Yeah I understand the 100k don't mess with it rule I've talked to my transmission instructors at school and same thing maybe ill just do the one time pan and filter change and call it a day. And maybe every 20k again. I know that if you change all at once your looking at the new fluid is cleaning components that needed the contaminants to help make the seal on the components. So my best bet is change the pan and filter change. Thanks
