Default train horn

I got a train horn. I hooked up the compressor and got that working but then hooked up the solenoid and it wouldn't work. I bought the train horn kit that has the solenoid with 3 horns all attached in one bundle. There are two wires coming off of it for positive and negative and the instructions say it doesn't matter which one you put on positive or negative. I tried both just to be safe but there was still no luck. What I did was hooked a wire straight to ground and took a positive wire to the positive part of battery and put a push button switch in the middle of the wire Looked everywhere else for how to wire a solenoid on train horn but I can't find anything that explains it very well. Obviously I'm no electrician or mechanic, so please help!!

Also, did you fuse it anywhere? Does it have it's own control box or is it just a straight on/off? Did you try just hooking it up to 12v to check it first?

I tried grounding it to battery and the truck and I'm using a regular push button switch that's just straight up on and off. Yes I have a fuse on the wire.
