Default Trade up question.

Hey guys. I been silent but still trolling around here. Got a call from my father in law today asking if I was interested in his truck as he's getting ready to upgrade.
As some of you know I have a 2005 Lariat with the 5.4. Clean truck. Had it since 2006. Oil always changed at 3k and it's currently sitting at 118k miles. No problems at all. Couple of door dings as I have kids and they are inevitable. Motor is quite.
He has a 2008 King Ranch. White and tan. Eighty thousand miles and the oil has been changed every 5k miles at the dealer as he bought the lifetime oil change. Motor is quite and body is perfect.
It's gonna cost me about 5k dollars for the upgrade. Thoughts on if it would be worth it or not. I do like my truck and I get lots of compliments on it. Attached a pic of mine. Don't have a pic of his but it's a clean one owner.

Man,

That's a tough one.

Guess it depends on if you like the King Ranch that much better or not.

Be sweet if you could have them both!!!

I've never been a huge fan of the King Ranch Edition. I know lot's of ppl love them and they are nice, just not my flavor i suppose.

Sorry, no help here!!!

Nice looking 05! A few things to keep in mind - are you comfortable buying a vehicle from a family member, is there anything wrong with the truck that he knows of and is willing to admit, do you know what his driving habits are like, do you know what this truck has been through while in his possession...etc. I'm sure a lot of this has already been rolling around in your head, but it will boil down to how much you like your truck and if you are willing to upgrade (only by 3 years) to someone else's truck and potential problems. If he's had the King Ranch since new, there's likely a reason he's getting rid of it. (Just my opinion.)

Hmm, an 08 that hopefully has the updated heads vs a 05 that is one of the 2 years (04-05) that have the most cam-phaser issues. No brainer if the 08 has a motor build date after 10/09/07.

All good points guys. I definitely don't have a problem with buying from the in laws. I've been around this truck it's whole life so I know the entire service history. And here's the build date summers.

Now, pull a COP boot on the spark-plugs. Is it brown? If so, go for it.
