Default Tpms???

I just put a new set of wheels on the truck, '10 20" oem wheels.
now my tpms light is on.

I have read the manual, done the air down/up reset method, with no luck.

Is there a way to visually tell if the wheels still have the sensors?
The guy I got them from, was pretty vague when I asked him, if they took them out and installed them in his new wheels.

Also in the manual it states that we are to have a reset tool in the manual, looks like a key fob. My truck as well as my wife's Limited Expy does not have this reset tool, both manuals refer to it and have it pictured. Does anyone have this tool?

Did some more searching....

Sounds like since I went with a bigger wheel and different air pressure, my truck/sensors have to be reset to communicate properly.
Answers that question, but did anyone's truck come with the reset tool like my manual says?

When I upgraded to my after market rims and tires I had the same question. There have been a few threads about this but to answer your question none of the vehicles have the reset tool even though the manual says it should. I'm not quite sure why they put that in there.

It would be hard to tell if you have the sensors unless it won't program with the reset tool.
Your local tire shop should have the tool but if you want your own you can find one on ebay or some other site for fairly cheap. After I had mine relearned the first time the TPMS light went off so I had to go back and have them reset it a second time. I have not had a problem since.

Hope that helps.

If you bought 2010 factory wheels then they are not going to have the sensors or bands on them. I believe it is the 2009-2010 models that they started using valve stem sensors and I don't believe older models have the abilitly to read the valve stem sensors.

I don't have any experience with this but those are the main differences between the wheels.

If you have your old tires and wheels you could atleast take the sensors out and then purchase new bands and have them put on your new wheels. Yeah it is a pain in the cause you have to break all of your tires down. I believe you could buy all of the sensors and bands for probably fairly cheap off ebay or something.

You nailed it.....the newer trucks use the stem sensors, and older trucks use bands.

I was thinking of powder coating the new wheels black, so I might get prices and go with that idea since I have to break them down.

make a tpms bomb...... im getting ready to do that for my truck... i didnt put the sensors on my new wheels....... you can take your sensors... put them in a seal pvc pipe... seal it all up good and put a valve stem in it to you can add air... and air it up to the pressure of your factory tires should have... and then just hide it in your truck... it will kick your light off.... and you wont have to worry about that lgiht again...
