Default Towing confusion???

I own a 2008 F150 XLT Crew cab 4x4. I tow a 30' travel trailer with out any trouble, but I took one long trip last summer and it really struggled to go over 60 down the highway. After this trip I developed the ticking in the motor that seems to be popular in these trucks. So I'm concerened that I caused the ticking and It also causeed me to be very concerned if I'm pulling wayyyyy to much.

Here is the way we go: Camper is labled 7000 lbs empty and 11000 totally full. We tow this absolutely dry except a full fridge and some clothes. So I'll say to be safe 8500 lbs. My truck is usually full of wood and a bike or two. 4 people combined weight 600 lbs.

I'm just looking for it to be simply put. can my truck haul a camper and loaded truck? Should I be upgrading to a F250? Thats a simple answer but can I get away with what I have now??
Thanks so much
Rich

I'd go have it checked out at the Ford Dealer, ticking isnt good in the motor. If you've been around here for awhile, you know what everyones gonna say. Your F150 should be more then capable of pulling 8500 pounds, very stong truck.. Mine actually pulls a 33ft camper better then my 2500HD did.

I would have to agree. The 08 has a GVWR of 7200 and a towing Rating of 9200. I would have to think you are well within the capabilities of the truck. I would say that the tick would have come along regardless of towing unless you only drive it to church on Sundays. The only reason to upgrade to an HD would be if you are pulling mostly in the hills. Then you would see benefit from a diesel. I pull a relatively small unit (20ft) and I can see easily pulling a 30 with my 06 although fuel economy goes right in the toilet.

I have an 04 Screw and tow a 30FT travel trailer with no issues. Plenty of power to move the unit over 60MPH if I wanted to. I don't think you are stressing it out at all.

FYI, my tick was just the plugs. Replaced them and no more tick.

Go weigh your rig on a weigh station next time you take it out. That way you know exactly how much weight you have and can make your decision from there.

I pull my 28 foot, with my 09 STX 4.6v8 and no issues. I will say wind can make a huge difference. I did upgrade to the superchips flashpaq 1865 and using tow mode its a totally different truck.
