Hi guys and gals, on my 2005 XL, the boot on my column shift transmission is torn, been that way for about a year or two now. Its located on the column where the shift lever goes into the column itself (pictures attached below). From what I've seen and been told, the entire shifter lever assembly needs replaced in order to replace the boot, so it all comes as one kit. Tasca Parts has it for $40 ($10 shipping, so total $50).
I've seen more posts on this for the 10th gen trucks, but not much for the 11th gen.
According to the OEM service info (a great resource for those with 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2011 model F-150's) I have access to, it calls for removing the steering wheel, which, if I wanted to tackle this myself, I don't really want to remove if at all possible. Would it be possible to remove the lever by just removing the upper and lower column shrouds?
Also, has anyone else had this issue with their column shift models? If so, what have you done to remedy this? I've thought about just covering it with duct tape or something similar, but kinda want that OEM look, haha.
Thanks in advance!
