Question TooLoud

I bought a new 2008 F150 with a 4.6. I still have my 1997 F150 with a 4.6. When I drive the 1997 it runs silent. I can't even hear it run. When I drive the 2008, it roars at the slightest increase in throttle. It drives me nuts. The last thing I want to hear is my stupid truck. The exhaust is so loud that I put on an additional Walker muffler. It was still loud so i put on an additional glasspack as a resonator. Still loud. When I accelerate ANYTIME it roars. I think the problem was designed into the stupid thing so people think I am tough. You know, the louder the truck, the tougher the man? I think the problem is in the design of the intake. How can I change or modify or install a different intake so that this thing quiets down. I want stealth, not an announcement of "here I am." Please give me constructive input. I truly am ready to sell the S.O.B. and never buy another Ford ever again. I may lose money but i am not prepared to listen to this stupid thing everytime I drive and have it **** me off. Other than that, it runs well and drives well. They engineered some stupid things into it, but only the sound is the dealbreaker. Please advise.

It was still loud so i put on an additional glasspack as a resonator.
You put a glasspack on it to make it quiet?

Hmm.. makes sense to me.

So idk how you can still here the exhaust after having the stock muffler still on and 2 aftermarket ones! That just doesn't make much sense to me! Maybe the exhaust is so quite your just hearing engine noise. just a thought!

A bit more information is needed. First, where is this "roar" coming from? Is it from under the hood? It sounds to me like you may be describing the fan; they do make a noise when at idle, as the fan is drawing cool air through the air conditioning condensor and engine radiator. Once the truck is moving forward, the clutch fan disingauges, as air is naturally being drawn through the front. Does the truck get quiet as you move forward or are driving? Is it noisier at idle? If so, an electric fan conversion will quiet that noise.

Second, what shop in it's sane mind would install an additional Walker muffler AND glasspack () to a STOCK muffler system to make the system quiet? They are laughing behind your back on this. Please don't tell me you did this installation....

I'll assume the trucks exhaust was stock; they are very quiet. I drive around the Dallas Texas area; many Ford pickups in Texas. The stock trucks are very quiet.

Could you describe where (in detail) this "roar" is coming from; it cannot be from the tail pipe(s), unless a previous owner removed the stock muffler, and/or punched out the catalitic converters. You mentioned it was "new", so I'm also assuming you are the original owner, which would rule this out.

One last question: did you take it out for a test drive before you bought it? You should have/would have heard this roar, and moved on to another truck/vehicle.....

If its too loud, you're too old...sorry, could'nt help it. When you first drove the truck at the dealership was it loud or did it just become loud after some time? Is it coming from under the hood, under the truck, or rear of the truck?
