A buddy of mine took some air plane striper or some kind of paint striper to his to take the clear coat off his aluminum tool box and then used the spray on bed armor to turn his black. I looks nice with the texture and everything. Don't know if it will start peeling though. He did it last weekend.

Thanks for the tip. I've read about a few guys doing that. I'm picking one up this weekend so I'll assess the condition and go from there. Should be a nice little project. Any suggestions on bedliner brands? I've seen some kits but since I'm not doing a whole bed I don't really news that much. Spray can or roller?

I put one on my truck over Christmas time and it was the best thing I've ever done to it. I am perfectly willing to sacrifice from bed space in my short bed for piece of mind of having nearly everything I need on board.

I would vote taking it to get sprayed by a Line-X dealer...their product is amazing. A lot of folks normally don't prep the surface correctly with other brands or when they are doing it themselves. If you are patient and meticulous though I say go for it!

Thanks blackhawk, I like the idea of being able to have emergency gear close buy. And right now because of my backseat I only have the essentials.

I looked at line x prices and while none were for tool boxes short bed prices were around $500. That just blows my budget. I think I'm going to try the DIY technique. Lots of prep. Still deciding on bedliner brand. Does anyone have experience with roll or spray on liner?

I've used the roll on Herculiner kit from autozone on the interior of my jeep and I used the duplicolor spray on some side steps. The duplicolor SUCKS and the Herculiner was decent. The Herculiner would be better if it were sprayed.

I'll do some research, thanks for the input. I have to remember that its going on a toolbox not a bed so I it doesn't need to be cinder block/scrap metal/log durable. Just enough to be scratch resistant and hold its color. I don't want that sun fading it to white.

Here's what I picked up

Should be receiving my Herculiner and UV top coat this week. So I'll sand and prep this weekend, roll on this week, should be all done next weekend.

Here's how it looks mocked up. I don't hate the aluminum color but I think black will look better.

Looks good, did you ever get chance to put the herculiner on it? I just picked up a used toolbox too, has a few dings and scratches so I was planning on using herculiner on it as well. Just curious how yours turned out before I start mine.
