Default Tires?

What would be the best tire for highway most of the time and offroad every now and then while hunting or storm chasing

logically, anything thats great on the highway, will not be good offroad, and vise versa
but im sure plenty of guys will be willing to tell you whatever is mounted on their truck, will perform the best in any and all conditions

youll have guys with mud tires who get 20mpg , make no noise on the highway, and get 87k miles out of them
and guys with straight line highway tires and 2wd that have never gotton stuck in the snow once and can go anywhere a 4x4 goes

again:

I'm in the same boat as you. I got nitto terra grapplers and they are the perfect mix. Super smooth and quiet on highway but excellent traction in dirt and surprisingly good in mud ( accounting the smoothness and ride quality). I also currently have 60 thousand miles on then with a surprising amount of tread. I love these things and will run them for life

How do they do in snow and ice? I've heard mixed reviews on that. And what size are you running? I was thinking of sticking with the stock 275/65/18

I liked the Firestone Destination AT's I had on my truck and wouldve gotten another set if I didnt get a much better deal on a set of Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's, which are supposed to be an even better tire.

I never had a problem in snow with the Firestones and I mainly drive on the highway and they rode nice and were quiet.

Ive only had the Bridgestones on for 3 weeks.

I have had mine in a pretty good bit of snow and ice and they did amazing .. I was very impressed.. To me they are the best all around tire on the market today!
