Default Ticking noises...

I've read quite a bit into the cam phasers but I'm still not sure what to think or where to start. It idles fine both hot and cold and drives fine. But when the engine is up to temp, sometimes it will start ticking and shaking a bit but only when, say, driving slowly in a parking lot. If you give it a touch of throttle and let off, on decel it will start ticking an running rough. It smooths out and idles fine and quiet. Most of the time it doesn't do this but sometimes it does. Here's a video. Might have to turn it up to hear it. Where should I start?

Yikes, that sounds like your timing chains slapping around, like you have bad tensioner seals. I wouldn't continue to drive it that way if those chains are slapping on the timing cover and dropping metal shavings into your oil....

Great... So why does it only do it when hot and under light throttle?
So should I just go ahead and do chains, tensioners, guides, etc.?

I guess I shoulda kept my 4.6... Lol. Oh well. I knew and expected these problems. So be it.

Yes, that sounds bad. If its only when the engine is hot then it could be a phaser. Does the sound come from one side more then the other?

My truck was doing the exact same thing!! But mine drove and idle fine cold and even when
warmed up. But once i was in the parking lot and i put it in park it started to do that. And i believe it even did it in reverse as well.

Well here's another video. Here it's up to operating temp. And no I can't tell if the noise is from one side or the other. What do you think? In this video it doesn't do it nearly as bad as the first video. So wtf.

You've got a valve cover leak on the passenger side...
It sounds like it could certainly be a phaser. Maybe a roll pin holding the reluctor ring let go and the camshaft position sensor is getting a bad read from it. Pull the oil fill cap and neck off and observe the phaser. If you see any wobbling in it then its the reluctor ring... Either way it sounds like she's ready to go under the knife for a full timing set rebuild...
How's your oil pressure?
Any new codes popping up?

Mine sounded like it was on the driver side but yours sounded like its in the middle. Im fortunate that where i bought mine from they said they owe that fix for me, so no money out of pocket for me. I really hope its an easy fix for you. Im not that knowledgeable with the newer style vehicles, so its all a learning curve. I hope mine is something simple as well.

Oil pressure, not sure. Only have the dummy light. Will have to get a real gauge.
No codes at all.
But I'll try that and see. Thanks. Like you say, probably just need to go ahead and do a timing set rebuild... Which although I can do it with the help of a friend of mine it's kind of starting to irritate me... Starting to wonder how much I want to keep the truck after all.
