Default Ticking noise from engine

I have a 2008 F150 FX4 5.4L (50,000 miles). It has developed a ticking noise which to me sound like it is coming from the passenger side of the engine and is getting worse. It only appears upon accelorating and goes away once I reach a crusing speed. It does not make the noise when idling. Any ideas on what this may be and how serious?

Check around your passenger exhuast manifold for signs of black soot from exhaust. From what you describe sounds like an exhaust manifold leak. I have heard that it is covered under warranty, but have also heard some dealerships will say it is not.

I had a similar problem at about that mileage. Turned out one of my spark plugs worked its way loose. Replaced and all was good. I wish all of them came out that easily when I hit 100K this spring...had 3 break off.

Thanks all,
I will check the plugs and inquire about the warranty. If this is an exhaust manifold leak will it cause any longterm damage if not fixed right away?

It will progressively get worse. The little tick you here now will get louder and louder. I have the same problem and took it to the dealership and they keep saying they don't hear it... good luck with yours.

I had a passenger side exhaust leak but it was coming from where the manifold bolts to the down pipe. Lil elbow grease tightening the bolts up and good as new
