Thinking of updating ODM-II Code Reader/Scanner
Good afternoon
I'm thinking of updating my code scanner.
I've had it since well before I even bought my F150.
I think I bought the scanner in 2001 or 2002?
It works fine, but all it does is check for codes and erases them (if needed).
I know some of yall have some pretty modern scanners that do real-time monitoring and graphing. I know also there's a few that connect via Bluetooth to your cell phone or iPad.
Can some of yall suggest a few brands & models for your average DIYer?
Thanks

If you have an Android phone or tablet I can't recommend this setup enough!

This is what I use and I love it! You can monitor live data, setup custom gauges, and clear/read codes.

Pretty new thing that's now available if you have an iPhone or iPad. The adapter is a little pricey but it seems great and the free app is full of excellent info. Also reminds you of mileage maintenance. Might wanna look at their site: https://www.fixdapp.com/ Edit: Also available on Android

I just went through this when I installed my android head unit.
Basically the $10 ELM-327 will work BUT there are two models. v1.5 and v2.0
The ELM-327 v1.5 will work in more units. I think the ELM-327 v2.0 uses a new bluetooth chip that doesn't work well this generic android head units.
Both v1.5 and v2.0 worked with my phone.
In the end I opted for an ELM-327 wifi unit as wifi is easier to connect to and doesn't seem to have the bluetooth issue of the ELM-327 v2.0 (and some ELM units are not marked as to what version they are).
The real magic to ODB-2 is the app you use. The reader can't read codes that the app doesn't know how to retrieve.
Torque pales in comparison to what ForScan can do.

Im going to have to look into ForScan. Saw it wasn't real productive for the 04-08s but I truthfully know nothing about it. You use the app on your phone?

Torque Pro is the app I use, it was $10, plus the OBDII scanner, I believe it was $20. Works on all the vehicles I have tried it on. A member here posted a PID upgrade for it also to read you VVT also.
