Maybe, maybe not. I am sure I paid a little more than I could/should have, but I had another car I needed to get out of at the time, so I didn't have a whole lot of choice. They were the only dealer willing to give me what I wanted for my trade. Everybody around here was selling trucks for that much, even privately (and most of the private ones I saw where worse deals than what I got).

If I could have sold my car privately or taken more time to sell it then I would have looked at going further to get a truck, and probably paid less. But considering it would have saved me maybe $3000, by the time I bought a plane ticket, took extra time off work, and drove it back I would have spent close to that $3k in tickets, fuel, and time.

At the time 04/05 FX4s with REBUILT titles were being sold for 14k.

So given I had negative equity on the car I had and that I was able to talk them into giving me more on the trade in (which is about the same as lowering the price on the truck, FWIW) and I paid $19k for it, I don't feel I got screwed, especially when the book value (nada) is still $18,500 and trade in is $15k.

Did I pay more than I wanted to? Yes. Could I have paid less if I had a little more time (looked for 2 months)? Sure. Did I get screwed, not at all.

I shouldn't have put it so bluntly.

As long as you got what you wanted and are happy with it, you did fine...it's only a little money after all.

Doesn't sound like a bad price at all. Similar trucks in my area are going for $19k-$18k.

well if he don't want to buy it, i'm thinking bout getting another f150. but dont like the new body style. so 15k for a used truck w/ 200000 less miles sounds good. i could even live w 4wd even though i don't need it.

I also won't sell a car to a friend or family member.

I am the same way. Especially when it comes to selling. I would much rather sell to a stranger and wash my hands of it. On the other side.. if I was buying I wouldn't buy from a friend unless I was getting a ridiculous deal, and it doesnt sound like you are. Just my .02.

Right. It was as close to what I wanted as I was going to get and the price was okay. It was time sensitive so I didn't push harder, although I could have. People were snapping trucks up at that price so it was easy to sell them and not budge. If I didn't buy it somebody else would.
