Default Thinking About Gears

alright so i got my lift and tires on. now its time to get some power back. currently Im on 37s. as much as i seached 4.56s would be good for 35s and 4.88s are good for 37s. Im only 2wd so i would only need to do the rear axle. what im asking is what would i expect to pay. and what eles would i need to do along the line of getting gears.

4.88 yukon gears with a master install kit will run you roughly $500 and installation will probably be $500 too. would be a good time to think about adding a locker if you go offroading or adding a diff cover to dress things up.

My truck only had 60k when I had mine done, so I didn't go with the new master install kit and I paid 940 front and rear for Yukon gears installed. No locker, reused stock limited slip. If you shop around you can get a better deal. Went to a smaller local shop rather than four wheel parts or a large shop.

Pardon my lack of knowledge but what is a master install kit and all that jazz. I have a 2wd with nearly 60k miles sitting on 33's and was thinking about regearing but I have NO idea what all the different numbers and whatnot mean heh.

Check door code under axle and see what it says then google that to see what gears you have. H9 is 3.55 I believe and b6 is 3.73. I may be a little off, but google it to find out for sure.

What motor you have? If the v6 definitely 4.88s to get more power back. If v8 depending on how much highway driving would determine what ratio to get. More highway 4.56 if not too much go with 4.88. My 35s and 4.56 have lots of power but highway mileage wouldn't be great if I drove it there much. Use mainly for towing and city driving

I'm lookin To go to 37s or 38's I do mostly around town driving some highway but not really worried about fuel. You really can't be going that big. But what gears do you recommend??

4.88 or even 5.13 if you want the most power and mileage isn't a concern. 4.88s with the 37s would be good. Jerhelo has 4.56 and 37s and said 4.88s would be perfect for them. Most with 37s go 4.88 but for more low end torque you could go 5.13s.
