Default Thinking about an F150

Hello all. I am thinking about getting a 2005 F150 with 80000 miles on a 4.6l automatic. The truck is extended cab and 4X2. I was wondering how dependable the truck has been for you all. Has anyone had any major problems? Is it a good truck? They want 12000 for it. Any input that you all have would be great.

Thanks
Rich

The 2v 4.6L is a well tested engine, but make sure you test drive the 5.4L and make sure you wouldn't rather have the bigger power plant.

Ditto on this. The 4.6 is proven tough, and can accomplish what the 5.4 can it just works much harder to get there. I, personally, don't really like that but I can live with it. I don't necessarily "need" the 5.4 but I just like power. Find out for yourself like gator said!

Thanks for the help. I think that the 4.6 will be fine. I have a Tacoma now with a 3.4. Just wanted to know about the motor and all. I take it that everyone on here is happy with thier f150?

I drove a Toyota pickup before my F150. I have been very happy with the switch. I will stick to Ford. The price on the truck you're looking at seems a bit high IMO.

12k isn't bad. 10,750 might be better.

The resale value on 2004 to 2008 trucks has gone up significantly as of the last 6 to 8 months. I bought my truck over a year and a half ago....same truck, same options is now about $1500.00 more.

Good for us that own them, bad I suppose if your in tha market for a used one.

To the poster; search on "purchase" or "buying truck"....you should get some hits on this topic, as it has been asked by new members before.

And welcome aboard!

I also noticed the resale value went up.

Early last year a loaded '04/'05 FX4 Supercab was going for $11k with 75k on it at a few dealers around here.

I got a hell of a deal on my truck and its actually worth more now than when I bought it even though its a year older and has 24k more miles on it now.

What trim is the truck? XLT or Lariet? That would be good to get a better idea on a reasonable price. The price seems high to me also but I always think the price is high.
