Default Taking the plunge.

Hey guys. My name is Matt and I've been lurking around the site now for a few months now trying to decide how big of a lift I could put on my 05. I've seen everything from 2 to 15+ and I think it would suit me best to fall somewhere in the middle of that. I like the look of a 37" or 38" tire, but would be open to as big as 40" if I could do it in my price range. Mixing a suspension lift and body lift is alright with me, I don't mind if my frame shows a little. I've also read that you can use a leveling kit as well...? I don't do any extreme off-roading or anything, but once every month or so I find a mud hole I just can't resist. I have about 5-6k to spend on this and I had a few questions for you experts out there.

1. If you had 5-6k to spend on lift/tires/rims, what would you get?
2. If I don't go offroad very much, will my stock axels and gears be ok with a 37" or 38" tire?
3. What are the pros/cons of a bigger/smaller rim other than personal preference?
4. Are all 37"+ tires going to be $400 or more?
5. Can you put a suspension lift, body lift, and leveling kit on at the same time?
6. If you could have done something different in your build, what would it be? ex. Gone bigger the first time...

I know I have a lot of questions as "The new guy", but I am really looking forward to your feedback! I tried to attach a picture of my truck as is, but I'm not sure if I'm that advanced yet.

I can help with one of your questions. The stock gears even if 3.73's are going to make your truck feel like a complete dog with 37-40" tires and the fuel milage would go right out the window. Your transmission probably won't last long either.

Well... Haha ill try to answer as much as I can know about, please chime in if I'm wrong
As for your price range, I'm not too sure, you would just have to go out and price everything. But a decent 6" usually runs about 1800ish. That's one without the coil spacer. You could just go with a bds 8" straight off the bat but I think there kinda high like 2500-2700 ish. As for leveling kit on top depends on what lift you get. RCX I know cam only go as high as a 1" stacked. Pretty much everything else u can stack as long as there is no big coil spacer from your lift.
37's and stock gear you could prolly push it if u have 3.73, but would prolly be best to regear. I don't think 38-40's would work too good with 3.73
As for tires I think they will range about 450-550 ish for 37-38's I haven't looked too much.
As for me I have a 6" fabtech with 1.5" autospring stacked to give me 7.5" of lift. Running 35's on 20's. I soon wanna jump up to 37's or 38's tho. It seems these days its all about 8" on 37's compared to used to be 6" on 35's was the thing. Haha

Thanks guys. I have read a little bit about re-gearing, but I still feel a little in the dark about it...Is it something that a "normal" person can do, or something you need to take to a shop? Also, how much does it usually cost for new gears in our trucks?

I would go with a 8" bds with 456 gears on 38 or 37. I'm running Rize 8 stacked 2.5 with 37's till I can afford some new 38's. I have seen people running 15.50 wide tires but don't know how they do it for a daily driver. My 13.50 look perfect. And you may need to get driveshaft work done anything over 8". I am running 456 gears with my 37's with plenty of power and stil running a high rpm on the interstate 70mph is at 2100 rpm hopefully the 38's will bring them down a bit. I can still burn my tires down and pull 5klbs no problem

Found the 8" BDS lift. Does anyone know how hard this might be to put on?

Anyone know where to get new gears from?

I'd pay to have it done if you don't know what you're doing. You have to correctly shim and set the backlash on the gears or they will tear themselves apart.

Would it be done best at a Ford dealership or at a local offroad shop?
