Any reason you are going to a full synthetic? How many mile do you have on the truck? You really shouldn't have any problems nor any "special instructions." Odds are the only problem you might encounter is an oil spot in your drive because the synthetic oil is more likely to leak out anywhere it can. Im not a guru by any means so wait until one of them chime in but I would be surprised if someone was completely against it...then again, i dont see many people be completely for it as well. To each his own really.

If you're taking it to a shop...might have them flush it when they put the new oil in...This way you get all the old stuff out but I highly doubt thats 100% necessary.

The stock oil in our trucks is a synthetic blend. You will be fine. But once you go to synthetic is not recommended to return to full dinosaur oil. Synthetic blend is okay, but full dino is a no no. Ive ran synthetic in mine for a while now. If you are going to run synthetic then make sure you run longer change intervals. Right now I have the Mobil 1 extended performance. Recommended change intervals is 15,000 miles. I change it at 10 because I tow and city drive alot.

The way I've always switched from conventional to full synthetic (anytime I buy a vehicle) is use a synthetic blend for the first change, then at the next change use a full synthetic. Might not be completely necessary, but it seems like it would ease the engine into the synthetic better that way. Plus, I'm a little odd when it comes to these things...

All oil changes have been done by a FORD dealership and I use nothing but full synthetic in mine. 31K miles on my 08 screw and never had an issue.

Alot of people have told me to use a synthetic blend the first time I change and then go with full synthetic. It sounds like a safe bet and it shouldnt hurt anything so that is what I plan on doing. Thanks for all the replies everyone!

I've been running syn since new on my '05 and now have 105,000 mi. I figured that with all the cam phaser issuses I should use the oil available.

I would run Mobil 1 fully synthetic just like I did in my 06 Mustang, but I get free oil changes for life at the dealership on my truck. They use the Motorcraft synthetic blend every 5k. From the research I've done, Motorcraft is one of the better synthetic blends on the market and Motorcraft filters are top notch as well. For more info you could check out some of the Mustang forums. MANY Mustang guys have sent their oil in for analysis.

I'm amazed to still read the myths of switching between synthetic, semi synthetic, and conventional ("dyno") oils. Synthetic will not produce leaks (unless you already have a leak), and you can switch back and forth between the three (I prefer semi or full synthetic) at any time. You can even mix most with each other when your in a crunch (need to add a quart).

Personally, I will run between semi and full synthetic, based on specials that the stores run at the time I need an oil change.

And you can even go back to dyno at any time without any concerns to your engine. The advantage of semi and full synthetics is longer mileage between oil changes. If you don't take advantage of this, then your wasting money.
