Has anybody silenced bad cam phasers with full synthetic. I've heard that since it is thiner it gets around them beter and makes them quiter. I use motor craft 5w20 synthetic blend now but I was thinkin of trying mobil 1 full synthetic. Any body had luck with this? I know it won't completely silence them but I would be hapy for them to be quiter

Something
Synthetic is best
In my experience synthetic oils will not make and engine sounds less so. It can actually make the VCT a little louder (but with no concern). People say they use 5w-30 or 10w-30 in their engines to silence them (thicker oil to reduce sounds that 2 parts make when they tap against each other) but this is the wrong apporach and the thicker oil can eventually lead to VCT failure due to the oil not flowing as well in the small passages.
Don't try to lessen engine sounds with the use of different weight oils. Not a really good idea.
X2 on what Bucko says. Right on with that.
Another benefit of synthetic is that it gets around your pistons easier and reduces friction between the piston and the cylinder wall and also lubricates your piston rings a little better than regular oil or blend.
The blend is OK, but it is only like 5 or 10% synthetic and the rest is regular oil. That being said, it is still a great oil to use. Even regular oil is just fine, it just doesn't penetrate tiny clearances as well as synthetic. Also, with regular oil you have got to stay on top of those oil change intervals. Once regular oil (or any oil for that matter) hits its lifespan, its lubricating qualities go south very fast and this will lead to a huge increase in friction between engine components.
