Default Switched Power Outlet

2005 XLT, is it possible to easily make our power outlet "switched" ? I would like it to turn off/on with the key. Nothing in the manual, so that pretty much tells me this isn't going to happen.

I assume your plugging a GPS or Something into it you want to turn off so as not to drain the battery. I have had this issue with my Sirius XM mobile and GPS. I haven't solved the issue with the Sirius as it is plugged into the Cigarette lighter directly, however I have solved it for the GPS. The overhead courtesy / map lights have a 12V supply that is continuous, until the battery saver cuts it off after 10 min. If you purchase an aftermarket lighter socket and tap into this supply, you have a low power ( Less than an amp) supply that's on while the vehicle is on ( and the cords don't dun across the dash ) The main power to the radio works the same way. The OBD port is powered off the same fuse as the cigarette lighter, so you don't want to mess with that!

Good idea. I've read plenty, and nothing is "quick and dirty" I'll have to run wires or install a switch or come up with an idea similar to yours. Thank you

I did this on a Toyota Tacoma I had several years ago. It's not difficult. You'll have to install a relay in the existing power feed wire, and use a switched source (like radio power) to control the relay.
