I'm thinking about a slide key,(gift certificate money). Amazon has two made by ikeyless. One looks like like a Ford remote, the other is black and gray and looks a little nicer, but is $5 cheaper. Any opinions on the subject.
Thanks.

I know my key has a chip built into it, so you can only start the truck with that specific key. If you get a key copied, you'll be able to open the doors and turn the truck to the "on" position, but it won't start. I'd make sure the keys you're looking at have a chip and can be reprogrammed. Just be careful though because most likely only a dealership can program a key and it will cost a pretty penny.

If anyone knows any different, feel free to correct me where I'm wrong.

I want to say that you insert your own key into it.

yeah i agree with monkzy on being careful with a key with a chip in it...if i remember right, the dealer charged me $80 to get a duplicate key made that does everything. i also needed my code switched on the door so that might have been included. This was a year ago so i may be wrong. However, i would definitely make sure that key can do everything if thats what you are looking for.

ahhh..the ones for $65 and $60? pretty cool...and yeah both say they have programmable directions but they both say you need 2 keys already programmed with the chip inside...not 100% how it all works but if you have 2 Ford programmed keys it looks like this could work for you

I lost a key for my truck, took the spare to the dealer and they programed a new one from the spare for 50 bucks. if you lose both keys and have to have new ones is about 250.

I have a thread somewhere with pics of my flip keys. I like them much better than having the separate fob.

I think theyre in my steering wheel swap thread.
