Default Swapping a 2010 5.4l and trans into a 2005 body

Has anybody been able to swap a 2010 or around that time, 5.4l engine and either a 6r80 or 4r75 trans into a 2005 body. Both my engine and transmission are on their way out, and I want to update both to keep the body going because it is in great shape. My plan is to do a full engine and transmission swap, and I want to see what is actually possible. I currently have a 2005 5.4l and 4r75e transmission in the truck

Thanks!

I’m not sure, but it would be cool if you could get one with the 6r80 six speed in there. Much better transmission than the 4 speed and really wakes the truck up a lot. Really nice, smooth shifting transmission.

Thats exactly what I am thinking, I would love to put a newer engine in, and match up the 6r80 to it, I just don't know what/if I can make it work even with aftermarket parts

I can’t see how that would work since the PCM of the truck commands the trans to shift. No way it could work with a trans with different gears and so forth…….

i guess if you reprogrammed your PCM maybe?

If you Google up “Ford 6R80 controller”, a few interesting hits come up.

Supposedly, these make it easy to slam a 6R80 into the vehicle of your choice. Shouldn’t be that hard to drop on in an 11G F150 then…

In which case do I need anything specific for the motor, or should it work with the 05 wiring harness??

You are the one taking this on. Do some homework, ask the controller vendor of your choice and let us know in your future “How To” article what you had to endure.

why don’t you just sell your 05 and buy a 2010?

So far all the 2010s with decently low milage around me are in the $25k+ range. Plus I just rebuilt the front end, and this seems like it would be an interesting project, so it's worth seeing if it's possible

anything is possible with enough money, time and skills.

where are you located that 14 year old 5.4s are commanding over $25k?
