Default stop ashtry from rattling

I love the set up of my 04 FX4 but on thing drives me nuts...the damn ash tray rattling as I go down the road. Doesn't matter if its closed or open.
I know the truck is almost 10 years old, but some of you miust have experienced this also, how'd you fix it?
thanks

I've got an 06 FX4 and I haven't had any rattling from that. If you put some weight in there (ie pennies) does it still rattle around?

I had that issue. I ended up taking it out and putting a switch panel in but I did find a solution. I found some of the foam pads that go on the bottom of chairs and furniture and stuff and stuck them on the top corners of the plastic pieces that show on each side when it's open.

There's a TSB from Ford about it. VERY common issue. Look it up.

Or rig it. I don't smoke, so I close a wad of paper in there.

I have the same issue in my 04 Lariat. I don't experience the rattling when it is open, just closed. I can't stand having it open because I got a small case of OCD! Any tips would be great. Not a big fan of rigging things and don't have money to put a switch panel in.

...don't quote me though, it was a guess

Mine did the same, try a little felt or the soft side of Velcro and stick it near the bottom so it doesn't interfere with closing it, but keeps it tighter.

^X2 on the velcro. Helps give it less play thus less rattling. I always love hitting a big bump and it pops open. Before I put the velcro on if I pushed the cig lighter in the ashtray would pop out..I'm guessing from the pressure on the panel.

I was thinking about doing this but worried it would interfere with it opening and closing. Good to know it works. Thanks.
