Default Step by step how to remove wiper cowl

Could somebody give me a pretty good explanation on how to remove the wiper cowl? I plan on painting it with Krylon Fusion.

I just got done doing this about an hour ago...The wiper blades need to come off first, there is a small lever on the side that swings out about 1/4" or 1/2" then lifts right off. It might be a little tough but it will go. Also there is a small key that might come loose when you lift it off. Mine didnt, but it did when I went to put it back on and I had to remove the cowl again to get it. In hind sight I should of put some greese on the washer arm before I put it back...Might help if I ever have to take it off again. There is plastic screw type retainer on the outside corner that pulls strait out

Then the cowl lifts out starting with the driver side, at the edge toward the engine start pushing the cowl toward the back of the truck and lifting at the same time and that edge should pop right out.

The rear of the cowl is hooked under the wind shield so it need to come back toward the engine compartment to unhook it, then it should slide back out towards the rear and out. Might have to adjust the hood alittle as you go, up and down to get it go smoothly.

Make sure you unhook the washer hose before you yank the drivers side out.

The passenger side is pretty much the same but unhook the washer hose just inside the engine compartment and pull the hose out with the cowl..

Oh ya and you might need new rubber cowl end pieces. I do, mine are shot and broke I took the cowl off. It is the piece at each end of the cowl that bridges the gap between the cowl and the fender.

I pretty much did it off the cuff..pretty easy... just dont force it and you should be fine. Hopefully that all make sense..needless to say its friday and Im a few beers deep...

Did you sand or anything or just spray and stick it back on?

There was also some kind of seal tape that was back there. It was all shriveled up and didnt look like it was doing much good. Maybe someone can chime in if that need to be replaced with new. It was on the rear next to the wind shield

The Krylon paint for plastics is good stuff. Just be sure you clean the plastic real good to prevent "fish-eye" when applying the spray paint. I always spray on some plastic "adhesion promoter" for good measure before spraying on the paint.
