Default steering wheel shaking

08 Super crew 4x4

Intimating problem Going down the road the steering wheel will start to vibrate hard. it will stop for a short time and start again. It happens at most higher speeds.

I thought it may be out of alignment I took it to a tire shop and had the alignment checked it was out of tow by 1/10 th of a degree and they balanced all the tires but the vibrating didn't go away. The truck it's self seams to ride smooth, no one in the truck can feel it but my son in the back seat told me he could see the wheel shake.

any clue what this could be?

i have the same thing in my 04 supercrew. i rotated the tires and the shake went to the back with is less annoying than the steering wheel. first i have a bent rim. second i have one tire that looks somewhat bubbled, but not to bad. so i cant narrow it down which one is the problem or both. i would rotate one front tire to the back first and then test it before rotating both sides. let me know how it goes or if you figure anything else out.

Mine does it also. I hope its is only the 20" perelli tires and or rims.

I am thinking it could be the tires
I start to feel it at about 45-50 MPH and at around 60 it is very notticable but it stops and starts it isnt always shaking.

Steering wheel wobble can be caused by tires out of balance/round, a bent rime, or a warped rotor. A warped rotor caused steering wheel wobble when you apply the brakes. If the steering wheel wobbles without the brakes applied, then the tires are out of balance, or you have a bent/damaged rim.

Take the vehicle to a tire shop and have the tire/rim combo rebalanced. Sometimes a weight comes off of the rim causing it to be out of balance; other times a belt within the tire itself seperates. In rare cases, a tire shop will "shave" a tire to get it into balance. This is rarely done these days.

I had the tires looked at and blanced. The shop blanced the tires and inspected them saying they are good.

Would this shop be the one that also sold you these tires?

If so, you may want to have them checked for balance and out of roundness by another "neutral" shop.

It's rare but possible that you have a front end suspension problem, but this is rare to cause steering wheel to wooble or wiggle only at certain speed ranges as you stated.
