So I think I found a special recipe to slather on that lower u joint.
I put a rubber glove on, then smeared a light amount of Lucas oil stabilizer into the joint from under the truck with my hand. Then I grabbed my grease gun, and pumped grease onto my fingertips about 10 separate times. I then packed it into the crevices of the u joint liberally each time. The steering feels brand new at the is point, even after a 64 mile drive in this mornings heat. Hopefully this holds out for a while.. I'm still buying another lower shaft, but after a quick inspection, it looks like this grease and Lucas combo could work well for hundreds or even thousands of miles...

I'm going to try engine oil next, but I'm probably going to order a new one this week. It does seem as though this problem started once the 95 degree days came along. I'm going slather the joint in grease if engine oil doesn't work.

I used high temp bearing grease for my trailer bearings. Have not had an issue since.

Mine's been doing this for a while now and spraying the knuckles with PB Blaster always helped, for at least a month or so. It happened again the day before we left to come home from vacation and now nothing helps. I just got off the phone with my mechanic.....$200 for the part and half an hours labor. Its almost impossible to turn now which is real dangerous to say the least! Its getting changed Wednesday......I don't want to take any chances that's for sure!
