Default Steering issue

what could cause a steering wheel to turn tight in spots and feel funny on a 09 extended cab xtr 4x4 5.4ltr v8 6 speed automatic 3.55 limited slip not modified or lifted at all and did anyone ever hear tell of a sector shaft truck has 301000 mile

It's the ujoints in the steering shaft. You can lube them for a while, but in the end you will have to replace the shaft.

Spray with PB nut buster will help for a while then like CKsBAT said you'll need to replace the intermediate steering shaft. Easy DIY project.

ls there any preventive maintenance to keep the intermediate steering shaft u-joints in good shape?

Just a crappy design, but keeping the joints lubed will make it last much longer.
