Spindle Nut
2007 2wd 4.6
Changed my rotors several times but this time is different. Two rear was easy as usual since no spindle nut. The difference is that I have no torque wrench and the last time I changed them I got new tires the next day and asked them to torque them to 295 I believe. Now its time to change again and I cant seem to break them lose. Used a 1/2 in socket and pipe for leverage. Broke both 1/2 I had. Bought a breaker bar and nothing. Used a hammer and chisel, nothing. Basically have half of it gone with chisel but still cant get loose. I have a pancake compressor but the impact is too weak.
Any other ideas? Your input is appreciated.

I had a total brain fart. Somehow I was thinking of the wheel studs when I wrote that. I was thinking to myself " How does one get them that tight without breaking them in the first place?". DUH......
Soak it and then heat it if necessary. Collateral damage mat be unavoidable at this point.

Get a good breaker bar with six point impact socket , then a 1 "1/4 pipe about 4 foot long and get on it . I have done it more than a few times and I am 71. I have the 300 # torque wrench for the torque on installing the nut . You could buy a big breaker bar from harbor freight and use pipe also . The big one has 3/4 socket so use impact adapter to 1/2 .
Always nice to have different sizes of cheater pipes around . Avoid heating that !Scrap yards have pipes .

Thanks redfish. I've done it myself many times as well, usually torqued them with as much as I could by hand. Afraid the tire guys went crazy with the impact because I've never had this much trouble. But yeah I plan to buy one since the rentals at the part stores only go up to 250.

FWIW, I was told by a couple of mechs that 250 was more than sufficient if you wanted to save some coin amd not pony out for a torque wrench.
I torqued my 2WD to 250 when I had it with no probs down the road, but it's your truck and your decision.

I went with the factory because of the many front steering problems with the 2 wheel drive bearings ,rotors and disc's . I have modified mine and went with the centrics on the fronts so I can use 4wd rotors and not have to mess with throw away spindle nut .
Sadly during hurricane hermine my shop was flooded with salt water and my torque wrenches were corroded badly . I have cleaned them and they finally seem to work so I will compare them to others until I trust them .
The long cheater pipes still are your best breaker bar , I just lean on them- not bounce them as I don't want to shear stuff . I would not use them on ratchet wrenches .
