The first picture is deceiving. The second and third confirm it must not be cracked.

I would just like to add, I believe the reason for this design is to prevent the boot from being damaged easily and it is better protected inside of the ball-joint itself. I have these moogs on my truck and have not had a single problem with them yet. I changed out from the basic style most of you are use to.
