Default Sound system ?

I have a 07 F-150 xlt. Leased it for three years, and bought it out right in August. And now I think it's time to upgrade the crappy factory sound system. Would like to replace all the factory speakers because they sound like junk, and will be replacing the head unit. Undecided if I want to add a sub. Been along time since I dealt with this stuff. Anyone make any upgrades they have been satisfied with, or some that they absolutly would not recommend. Like I said it's been a long time since I cared about this stuff, and I just want a little crisper sounding system. Any brands that are better, or any that are just a waste of money. Thanks guys for any info you can share.

I went with a Pioneer AVH-P3200BT and replaced all the 6x8 with Pioneer TS-A6874R A-Series 6"x8". What I like about the HU is it has a USB port, SDRAM port on the front, and my iPod connects right into (using the standard USB/iPod cable). I am pretty happy with the setup, speakers where surprisingly pleasing. What I am unhappy with is the Metra 95-5812 Double DIN Installation Kit, I had to make my own to get it to line up. Amp/Sub/Camera coming later...

I have been looking for upgrades as well and depending who you go to you'll get different answers. To get a full rich sound, amps or amp and a sub is a must. You get what you pay for in car audio stuff. JL audio and a couple other manufactures now have an amp that will power a complete modest system. Not talking four 12"s and 2000 watt amps but just a nice clean system. So far I've chosen a new Kenwood double din dvd, cd, mp3, player w/ bluetooth so I can wirelessly connect my iphone to play my music library, average price: $400. Brands that you most likely find in the local car audio stores alpine, kenwood, pioneer, jl audio, kicker, boston acoustic, polkaudio, rockford fosgate...i'm sure i missed a few... Lots of stuff to research, good luck. Crutchfield on the web has a lot of useful information too. As far as speakers go, you'll have to go and listen to them as they all sound a little different. Be sure to update on what you choose.

i will do, thanks for the info. thinking I can get away with one amp to run the system because I will just be going with one sub, i don't need to annoy the neighbors anymore. I always liked pioneer when i was younger, so i may get on Crutchfield and check them out.

I first added a JL audio sub box under my rear seat powered by a bazooka amp to my factory radio and it sounded great! Last year I put in a JVC 7" double din DVD/CD and it does everything I could imagine and am very pleased.

I installed a Power Acoustik 7" double din headunit over christmas break and I love it. I also have 2 10" mtx subs in 2 custom sealed bids I made. They sound alright, but personally, I wouldn't use them again. The only reason I got them was because I traded my old Kicker 15" for them.

I went with a simple upgrade, ordered everything from Crutchfield.
2din JVC head unit, JVC hd radio adapter, 2 pair boston acoustics 2 way s85's.
It included the head unit adapter bracket, all harness and instructions for $500.

Sounds so much better.

One thing I would change is I should have ordered component speakers for the front doors. Remember our front speakers sing to our knees (or lower). Having the tweeter come from above the armrest would have been so much better.
If you are not going to push alot of power, I believe Crutchfield even has numerous speaker models that have an internal crossover so you don't need the external one.

Check out the audio sticky. Good luck, have fun.
