Default Smallest wheels ?

Hey y'all, I have a 2006 F150, and I was wondering what is the smallest wheel I can fit on it?
I want 15" rims, but somebody told me 17" is the smallest I can go.. Is that true?

Yes. Due to the size of the brakes, 17's are the smallest you can fit.

Yup, 17's are the lowest you can go. I have 17's and part of the brake almost hits the the rims. i have less than 1/4 off an inch of clearance from the rims and the brake piece.

Just like everyone said 17"s are as small as you can go, but out of curiosity why do you wanna run 15"s?

Why run such small wheels anyways? I can understand on a rock crawler where more sidewall is a benefit but on a truck it looks extremely goofy. Just my opinion though.

Does anyone think it would be possible to modify the brakes for 16.5 inch wheels? The reason I ask, was to run military humvee tires.

Even if you could i doubt they would make that wheel in the 6x135 bolt pattern of the newer fords. They only will make wheels that fit 6x135 pattern 17+ inches because that's all anyone can run. I'm 99% sure it won't clear.

That would be a mistake all the way around, even if it were doable.

The mil. HMMWV tires are heavy as hell, which increases rotating mass, which means you would need to increase braking force.

Most people are trying to upgrade brakes on these animals, not make them smaller, they have enough difficulty stopping the truck at the factory diameter of rotor.
