Default Slotted and dimpled rotors

New member here. I have an 05 Screw 4x4. I've only got about 25,000 miles on her but I'm wanting to get rid of the brake dust thats ruining my rims. I'm looking at going w/ ceramic pads on a slotted and dimpled rotor. Just wondering if anybody is running these on a 4wd. Pro's, con's, pics?

just ceramic pads should do you fine. slotted and drilled rotors are expensive and expensive. and probably not that worth it with stock calipers.

Can I run the ceramics on the stock rotors? I've heard mixed stories on this.

I thought the same thing about the rotors. When I asked manufacturers I was told that the main purpose for slotting and cross drilling was to allow the rotors to cool faster after repeated heavy braking. I use ceramic pads up front on stock rotors and have had no problems at all. I was using semi-metallic pads before and I had all kinds of dust and bits of rusty funk on my rims. Now they stay clean, the pedal feel is great and I have no complaints about stopping power. On the other hand .... those slotted and drilled rotors look really cool

Thanks Incog. I guess I just need to figure out how much I want to spend. My main concern is the dust, but I didn't want to have to replace the rotors down the road.

I hear, and feel your pain! My wife bought her dream car a few years back; a BMW. It's a beautiful vehicle, with what I think are classy stock rims. My grief is that I have to wash the rims 2 to 3 times a week, and the car itself only twice a week! The brake dust that those pads produce is unbelievable. I swear it's attempting to build baby pads from all the dust.

I had a long phone conversation with a tech at bravarian motor works; he informed me that the factory pads are somewhat soft, in order to produce better braking at high speeds (A.K.A. autoban in Germany). The soft pads create more dust. You can go to a harder pad that produces less dust, but then you may gain brake "squeal".

So it's a trade off; less dust (using a harder semi-metallic compound pad) but get brake squeal.

Don't do the slotted or drilled rotors. They wear pads faster and unless you are autocrossing the truck its not worth the money.

I'm in desperate need of new brake pads and Wagner Thermoquiets seem to be very good at not creating brake dust, the main reason I'm going with them. You can also pick up 4 pads for 85 bucks from Rock Auto. Once I put them in I'll let you know how I like them.

Well i'm on the other side of this conversation. I just ordered drilled and slotted rotors on all 4 corners and Hawk HPS pads for my 07 screw. Im a true believer in making my vehicles perform better than stock but more importantly braking is ALWAYS my first mod. Its the one thing you can NEVER have too much of. BTW i've been running drilled and slotted rotors on all my cars over the years and have never had a problem and my brakes have always been the Hawk brand and they never wear prematurely! Go with your first impression and do it
